Mortise Locks - Everything Included!

Mortise locks are a big investment so make sure you aren’t getting shortchanged. Some locksmiths or hardware dealers are getting sneaky and only selling the trim and then nickel and diming you for the individual lock components and mounting hardware. Don’t fall into that trap.

When you buy a mortise lock each of these components should be included in the price:

Exterior and Interior Trim - The part of the mortise lock you actually see. The trim should included the handle, knob or lever that goes on the outside of your door and the knob or lever that goes on the inside of your door. If you are buying a “dummy knob” then these are the only parts you’ll need. If you’re buying an Entrance set (a fully functional lock) than you’ll need the rest of these components as well.

Mortise Box - This is the central component of the mortise lock and you need one for your new handleset to function properly.

Cylinder - When you use a key to lock or unlock a door you’re using the cylinder. The key slides into the cylinder and engages the rest of the locking mechanism. LIke the mortise box, the cylinder is an essential part of a mortise lock. Make sure it’s included in the price you’re paying.

Mounting Hardware - To properly install your mortise lock you’ll need a set of screws to affix the exterior and interior trim to your door. It would take a very devious dealer to not include these but don’t take any chances.

Installation Instructions and Product Template - You can probably put your new lock in without these two items but I really wouldn’t want to try. To save yourself a lot of hair pulling, brow furrowing and fist shaking make sure both your installation instructions and the template with all the individual specifications come with your lock. If you buy quality product from companies like Baldwin Hardware or Emtek then this information will probably be on their company website as well.

All the locks we sell come with every item I’ve listed. When we sell a lock we sell you the entire lock and include everything you’ll need to install that lock and have it work perfectly. If your considering buying from a dealer, make sure you’re getting everything you’re entitled to and nobody is playing any games.
