Custom Fireplace Doors: How to Order

Fireplaces are the center of the home. We may no longer rely on them for warmth and comfort as urgently as we once did but homes are still designed and decorated with the fireplace taking center stage, a position of prominence that makes the right fireplace doors a vital part of a home’s decoration.

A Touch of Brass offers 29 styles of fireplace doors and a complete selection of finishes and options. If you want it, we have it, so choosing should be simple. Ordering, however, can be a little tricky so we’d like to help.

Let’s walk through the process step-by-step.

Step 1: What type of Fireplace do you have?

Fireplaces come in different shapes and styles. Is your fireplace gas or wood burning? Is the shape arched or rectangular? Knowing the answers to these questions will make it easier to select your fireplace doors.

If you have rectangular doors and would like arched, no problem. You can choose doors that will shape your fireplace opening to give it an arched appearance.

Step 2: What style of Fireplace doors would you like?

Browse through our selection of fireplace doors and choose a style that appeals to you and will fit your home. Each style has different options and add-ons but the best place to start is with what looks good to you.

Step 3: Measure your Fireplace opening

Our doors are custom made to fit your specific fireplace opening. To make them just right, we need to know how big of an opening you have. We need to know the opening size. Please don’t measure your fireplace doors you already have on there. We need you to measure the bare opening.

Be exact. Use a steel measuring tape. This link shows exactly how to measure each type of fireplace:

Step 4: Decide on Your Options

Each set of fireplace doors has several options you can choose to customize it even further to your exact specifications. They vary from door to door but these are the basic options:

Door type:

You can have bi-fold doors or cabinet doors. Bi-fold doors open up and fold in on themselves, eliminating space and giving you a full view of your fireplace and minimal space on either side of the opening. Cabinet doors open straight out and stay on either side of the fireplace opening. Both of these options are available on most of our doors, sometimes with a small upcharge.

Glass type:

  • Clear-Just what it sounds like. Comes standard with all doors.
  • Smoke-This glass has a dark grey tint to it.
  • Black-Dark, almost opaque glass that is perfect for subdueing the glow of a bright winter fire.

With the exception of clear, all these glass types come with an upcharge, usually between $60-$80.

Mesh:

  • Gated- This mesh is like a secondary door to your fireplace. The mesh is attached to a sscreen that can be easily opened and closed, like a door. It is quick and convenient but usually costs an additional upcharge of $200.
  • Sliding- Sliding Mesh is the most popular choice among our customers. Sliding mesh can overlap, trapping in heat and providing a complet blockade to a typical fire’s snaps and sparks. Sliding mesh usually costs an extra $80 dollars.

There are plenty of other options to explore so go to our Custom Fireplace Page and start looking.

When you find a fireplace you like and want to find out a price and whether or not it will work with your fireplace just send an email to tim@atouchofbrass.com with the name of the fireplace doors your interested in and the measurement of your fireplace opening. If you’d like, you can even include a photo of your bare fireplace opening. I’ll forward that to the fireplace companies and get their expert opinion on whether or not your fireplace is compatible with the fireplace doors your interested in.
