How To Choose The Right Fireplace Door

Whether they’re from Bosse, Diamond W or Portland Willamette, A Touch Of Brass offers some tips on how to shop for glass fireplace doors.

I realize spring may be an odd time to talk about the fireplace doors we carry at A Touch Of Brass. But there are some good reasons why I bring them up.

First, energy savings. Just as a properly installed set of fireplace doors can help deliver heat more efficiently in the wintertime, they can also keep your air conditioning bills down in the summer.

Secondly, they provide a higher level of fire safety and injury protection, especially if you have children in your home.

Third, since they are a seasonal item, we’re offering free shipping for all of our fireplace doors from Portland Willamette, Diamond W and Bosse along with great deals on some models.

Finally, spring is the perfect time to upgrade your fireplace because you’re not using it, it’s been cleaned out and the chimney has been swept. (Right?)

So let’s look at how to choose a fireplace door set:

Most new fireplaces come with glass doors. But if you want to add this safety feature to an existing fireplace, retrofitting them isn’t difficult. The doors come in standard sizes that fit in any flat firebox opening.

Step one, look around your home and consider the style and finish of other accessories around the fireplace. Do you have brass doorknobs and lamps? Is your mantle piece modern or traditional? Is the hearth brick or stone? Do you prefer decorative or more understated styles?

If you like decorative, take a look at the Bosse Square to Arch Fireplace Doors or the Diamond W “The Colonial” Vine and Leaf Enclosure Fireplace Doors

If you prefer something a bit more understated and functional looking, you may want to consider Portland Willamette’s Crown Fireplace Doors or Diamond W’s Antique Brass with Top and Bottom Bifold Doors.

Next, think about your budget. You can get a great looking Portland Willamette Manchester Fireplace Door from $485. Or a top-of the line custom-fitted Bosse Model from $3,168. And there are dozens of other models in between. The prices vary depending on the size of fireplace and the desired enhancements such as handle styles and other features. I had a set of beautiful Bosse Glass Fireplace doors in my last house and got lots of compliments on them. But I wouldn’t carry any product at A Touch of Brass that I wouldn’t be proud to have in my own home. So whether you choose Portland Willamette, Diamond W or Bosse fireplace doors you’re going to get something special that will last.

Remember, it may not be winter, but your fireplace is still the focal point of your home. People see your fireplace enclosure all year long. But aside from how they look, think about the energy efficiency and safety that glass fireplace doors provide.

Finally, if you have any questions about buying or installing fireplace doors at A Touch Of Brass, you can always Ask Jim. Just post your question and I will get back to you with any selection advice, installation tips or other info you need. Let me hear from you.
