Wood Ventures Makes Wall Registers Easy
The difference between a wall register and floor register can confuse people because it is so simple. Floor Registers go in the floor. Wall Registers go in the wall. That’s basically it. Each of them just sits in a vent opening and control the air flow with their damper box (the set of louvers that open or close to let air out). There are just two small problems that can creep up when buying wall registers: installation and size. Spring clips can make both of those problems go away.
Installing a wall register isn’t always easy. Installing a floor register is. Simply take the register and place it into the vent opening in the floor. Done. Gravity does the rest. With a wall register, you’re fighting gravity, not counting on it. Once you place the register in the wall or ceiling’s vent opening then you need some way to hold it there. The most obvious way is with screws. Most registers sold as “wall registers” have pre-drilled mounting holes you can use to screw the register into the wall, if you’re wall has pre-drilled screw holes as well.
If it doesn’t then you have work to do.
Size is another problem. Most wall registers, registers that come with pre-drilled mounting holes, are 6″ x 10″ or larger. The problem is that many vent opening in walls or ceilings are smaller than that and the registers that will fit them won’t have mounting holes in them. Drilling holes through your brand new register could ruin your register, your drill and your entire day. Don’t try it.
Spring clips are the solution to both problems. Spring clips were invented by one of our best register suppliers, Wood Ventures, to make any register fit into a wall or vent opening. These clips attach to the damper box of the register and clip into the air vent. No drilling and no screws. It doesn’t matter if your wall has screw holes already drilled and it doesn’t matter what size register you need. As long as it’s a Wood Ventures register, spring clips will work with them.
