What is the Difference between Single and Double Cylinder?

• Single Cylinder Deadbolts: A Single Cylinder Deadbolt has a key on one side and a turnbolt on the other. It is the standard type of deadbolt for front doors.
• Double Cylinder Deadbolts: A Double Cylinder Deadbolt has a cylinder on each side and no turnpiece. It can only be locked or unlocked with a key. A double cylinder is ideal for security. If the lock will be near glass that is easily breakable or where unwanted access to the turnbolt is probable then a double cylinder is the best choice unless it would compromise safety. A Double cylinder should never be used on an emergency exit or in any circumstance where it could slow someone from leaving a room in case of emergency. For a Double Cylinder Deadbolt the collar that goes on the inside of the door is always circular, even if the outside collar is arched or square.
